Gallery Pavilion for Tara Donovan

UCLA Fall 2007

This project is made up of deconstructed volumes created by the folding of a 2-sided surface. The artwork is framed by semi-trapezoidal spaces that frame views of the artwork. Planes from each of these volumes either fold or are removed to link the spaces and create circulation. The 2-sided surface highlights the ambiguity of interior versus exterior space. Along the surfaces there is a graphic pattern, a second-degree intervention which relates to the scale of the body by guiding the viewer through the path of the gallery. This pattern emphasizes the change in the orientation of the surface planes and highlights the continuous surface of the building.
